Introduction


The Outreach Worker is responsible for creating, managing and leading youth programming at The Switch Yard Youth Centre, with a focus on building relationships and sharing Jesus with high school aged youth in Bancroft and the surrounding area. They will work under the direction of the Managing Director and in collaboration with the Drop-in Coordinator and Community Youth Pastor.  This position has the opportunity for either part time or full time hours depending on the situation of the chosen applicant.

We do this through genuine relationships and relevant programming that help youth to find hope and their God given potential. We are a not-for-profit, registered charity and a faith based, non-denominational, international, youth organization. The Kawartha chapter is part of Youth for Christ Canada, which started in 1944. The Kawartha chapter is divided into five satellites, working in eight different communities including Peterborough, Lakefield, Lindsay, Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Haliburton, Minden, and Bancroft.

Position Overview


Direct Youth Work
  • Be personally involved in relational evangelism and discipleship with youth, both in group and one-on-one settings 
  • Develop, manage and grow creative outreach programs within the Core Ministries model of Youth Unlimited 
  • Discover the greatest felt need of youth in the community of Bancroft and seek ways to meet that need 
  • Keep records of significant encounters with youth in corresponding log books
Key Skills: creative, community focused, flexible, adaptive, collaborative (teamwork), willing to take risk, missional, prayer focused 

Organizational/Administrative Responsibilities
  • Perform administrative duties pertaining to this role (ex. scheduling, communication including social media promotion, planning)
  • Submit required Ministry Reports to the Managing Director
  • Connect with local agencies and organizations, where appropriate, to expand the impact of outreach programs and The Switch Yard
  • Keep accurate records of all ministry activities and events
  • Understand and implement current Kawartha Youth For Christ HR & Risk Management Policies
  • Be accountable for budgeted program expenses and submit expense reports as required
  • Writing articles and/or providing relevant programming information for the Satellite/Chapter communications.
  • Work as a team player alongside staff, Steering Team members, volunteers and community members
  • Assist with the recruitment and training of volunteers
  • Attend monthly Chapter staff meetings and, on occasion, relevant training, conferences and events hosted by Youth For Christ

  • Participate in training opportunities and professional development, as approved by the Managing Director
  • Establish relationships for accountability and mentoring
  • Establish a financial support base (known as deputation) that supports your full salary – keep regular contact with donors through a news/prayer letter, visits, phone calls, etc.

Fundraising Responsibilities
  • Participate in all of the major fundraising events of The Switch Yard 
  • This position is funded on a missionary basis – requiring the gathering of a personal support team (see above)
  • Participate in development and nurturing of community support via community agencies, service clubs and church presentations where appropriate to expand the impact of The Switch Yard

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in front line work with youth
  • Have a passion to see youth and their families know and follow Jesus
  • Have the ability to relate to youth and their changing culture/environment 
  • Ability in directing youth to appropriate programs / services
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out administrative duties, including scheduling appointments and meetings, record keeping and professional communication
  • Be a self-starter with a strong work ethic
  • Have leadership experience and skills, and be comfortable leading not only youth, but also a team of volunteers
